(Error: black screen with white cursor only)

In office, we do had an old AMD acer laptop that have an error of a black screen with a white cursor only at the top, when it turn it on. It doesn't move, and look liked it was hanged. Below is the procedure I follow to solved it:

Press and HOLD down
the Fn and ESC key
TOGETHER

Then press the power
button, while holding
the buttons!

Release the power button
and continue holding
Fn and ESC for more than
5 seconds.

Release the buttons
and restart the laptop
